Area firm shifts jobs to India to cut costs; AM Communications has reduced its U.S. staff from 125 to 70. It will use cheap labor abroad
Article Abstract:
AM Communications (Quakertown, PA), hurt financially by the loss of two customers, is turning to India and its engineers to help develop its next technologies. AM has reduced its US staff this year from 125 to 70. After the loss of two major accounts, Philadelphia's Comcast and Italian Telecom, the company's revenues plunged. AM, which develops equipment that monitors the reliability of cable systems, said it was turning to India's less costly labor so it could improve its products while trimming costs. Network Systems and Technologies Ltd., which is located in a technology park in Trivandrum, India, will provide the telecom company with a network of over 500 technical employees.
