US Airways skips pension payments, seeks to end plans
Article Abstract:
US Airway Group Inc. dropped $110 million in payments due on September 15 2004 to its mechanics' and flight attendants' pension plans, as federal officials were calling on Congress to help ensure that companies meet their obligations to retirees. US Airway, which filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition, argued to US Bankruptcy Court Judge in Alexandria, Va., that the company had the right to skip the pension payments unless the court reveal it had to make them.
