Calm August puts inflation concerns on back burner

The Labor Department reported that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.1 percent in August 2004 from the previous month, allowing the Federal Reserve policymakers to raise interest rates. The inflation was expected to be slightly better than those predicted by some analysts as 0.2 percent rise in both overall CPI and for core prices.

Inflation emerges, especially in Philadelphia

A report by the government suggested that inflation is approaching the Philadelphia area. Sheila Watkins, the bureaus regional commissioner in Philadelphia stated that the inflation rose to 4.1 percent from 2.6 percent, which is considered as the steepest inflation rate in more than 12 years.
