NBC joins ranks of media giants in Universal deal

NBC completed its merger with the Universal Television and entertainment business and created a media conglomerate with expected revenue of $15 billion for the year 2005. The combination gave NBC access to universal's library of more than 5,00o movies, which could be used to drive DVD sales and video-on-demand services.

Change comes sooner than expected at Viacom

The No.2 executive, Mel Karmazin of the Viacom Inc. resigned setting up a succession contest at the media conglomerate that owns CBS and MTV. Karmazin, one of the most highly regarded executives in the media industry, was replaced by two senior Viacom executives, CBS head Leslie Moonves and MTV chief Tom Freston.
