To win the battle on taking people into the Internet, the two cable TV providers said they will expand their high-speed Internet access service to communities by end of the year. Unlimited use of Bell Atlantic's slowest service is set at $69.95 a month while rate for its fastest service is set at $189.95 a month. Bell Atlantic won'tgive Pa. same deal as N.Y
Article Abstract:
Bell Atlantic Corp. said that it will not accord Pennsylvania the same concessions it gave to New York to stimulate local phone competition. The company stated that the action would not be in the best interests of the Commonwealth's consumers. The agreement between the company and New York hopefully will lead to lower costs and better service. As for Pennsylvania, the company apparently disapproves of any independent third party testing how adequately it handles competitors' service requests and it does not intend provide competitors access to its lines and equipment as it did in New York.
