Consumer confidence surges to two-year high

A report presented by the Conference Board revealed that the consumer confidence was at a two-year high in June 2004, which indicated an improved job market and softening gasoline prices. Mark Vitner, an economist at Wachovia Corp., stated that the recent improvement in consumer confidence reflected improving employment conditions.

Improved job outlook lifts US consumer confidence
Article Abstract:
The Conference Board reported that consumer confidence has soared past analysts' expectations in April 2004 as a result of improved job outlook. The Consumer Confidence Index rose to 92.9, up from a revised 88.5 in March 2004 better than 88.5 that analysts have expected.
