Mike Anderson, president of the Louisiana Mortgage Lenders Association in Baton Rouge, believes that the subprime mortgage fiasco in the United States will not affect city's housing market. He also believes that despite the rise in foreclosures, the city's healthy market will protect it from the subprime meltdown.

BioFluidica's plan to develop a working prototype of a portable DNA testing instrument is discussed. BioFluidica, a start-up company, intends to include a test-specific microfluidic plastic chip in a sample of test fluid that can be inserted into the instrument. The possible uses of this device are also presented.
