For-profit internet company buying LibertyNet
Article Abstract:
Regional Network Communications Inc. (RNCi) is buying LibertyNet, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization which provides online services and support, such as web sites, to other nonprofit community organizations. The sale will help LibertyNet out its financial troubles as they could not compete with for-profit companies in the increasingly commercial World Wide Web. Community organizations who are utilizing LibertyNet's services are concerned by the sale to a for-profit company but are maintaining a 'wait and see' position before making a move to change services.
