Fed raises rate to 1.5 pct., despite dismal July

The Federal Reserve's (FED) increase in short term interest rate by 1.5 percent is a move to stay true to its projected course of dampening inflation through small interest rate increases as the economy strengthens and job creation picks up. The rate increase is the second since FED increased interest rates in June 30, 2004 from a 46 year low of One percent.

Federal Reserve policy makers are expected to raise interest rates at each session inspite of a drop in economic growth and increased oil prices. Fed chairman, Allan Greenspan's biggest challenge would be to ensure rate increase at a measured pace.
