The drugstore chain, Rite Aid Corp. in 1999 closed a few hundred stores, laid off a few thousand workers and had a huge debt. However, by early 2000, Rite Aid president, Mary Sammons, maintained good relationship with the remaining 73,000 employees and thus completed its cost cutting and debt restructuring. Hence, the company's revenue and cash flow is rising, and new stores are being built and it is expected that it will make profits in 2004.

U.S. Airways CEO says shutdown is not close
Article Abstract:
The chief executive officer of U.S. Airways Group Inc. Bruce R. Lake field tried to reassure employees and customers that the financial troubled airline was not on the verge of shutting down despite the threat from its chairman David Bronner. David Bronner, had commented that if he did not get contract concession from its labor unions the airline could be liquidated.

Baggage battle nearing an end
Article Abstract:
US Airways and Philadelphia International Airport officials were blaming each other for holding up work on a project designed to avoid a repeat of the airline's costly baggage-service problems at the airport. US Airways officials would spend $2.7 million to upgrade the baggage-handling system by adding more conveyor belts to move luggage.
