Layoffs of 450 at health system
Article Abstract:
The University of Pennsylvania Health System said that it is eliminating the jobs of 450 employees, primarily in administration, and cutting 9% of its total workforce. William N. Kelley, CEO, said that in eliminating 1,100 full-time jobs, the health-care system was making the most severe cuts of Kelley's decade-long term at the system. Penn thinks that it will save roughly $50 million in 1999 by eliminating positions in human resources, finance, marketing, public relations, and facilities management, said Kelley.
