Entrepreneur starts small, but he is thinking big

Montgomery County, PA-based Materials Resources International Inc. President Ronald W. Smith is involved in soldering and brazing. The products being developed by Smith do not contain ingredients that cause corrosion down the road. Smith, who taught engineering at Drexel University for 10 years, said the materials enhance the reliability of aircraft engines, satellites and computer chips, at lower manufacturing costs. Aside from Smith, the other principal of the new firm is Erich Lugscheider of the Technical University of Aachen, Germany. The firm, which operates out of a building on Elm Avenue in North Wales, obtained $2.5 million in government research grants.
