Markets slide amid mixed earnings data
Article Abstract:
Stocks in the US plunged on July 21, 2004 as weakness in the semiconductor industry and mixed earnings news offset the cheer over Microsoft Corp.'s plan for a stock buyback and an enormous dividend. The situation is discussed with respect to Nasdaq, which fell 2.2 percent, the Dow Jones industrial average's 1 percent fall, and the Standard & Poor's 500 index, which declined 1.3 percent.
