PGW to seek new loan from city; the utility says it will need $45 million to pay workers and stock up on natural gas for the winter season

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission will review a proposal from Philadelphia Gas Works regarding a $45 million loan to cover increasing costs and to keep the utility from running out of money completely in November. PGW is already $1 billion in dept and has annual interest payments due of $91 million. The $45 million is to cover payroll and some other costs. The City will also consider forgiving the $18 million dividend payment this year that it should receive every year.
