An Asian niche leads to growth

National Penn Bancshares Inc. of tiny Boyertown founded the National Asian Bank two years ago and its two branches are doing very well. Now the parent company has bought Panasia Bank for $21 million. Panasia has 3 branches in NJ and a loan office on Long Island. Long-term the goal is that 75% of Panasia will be owned by Asian Americans.
