Richard Preis developed a tract in North Baton Rouge that was originally purchased by his great uncle during the 1900s. Preis acquired small portions of land until he owned the entire block bordered by State Capitol Drive, North 6th Street, North 7th Street and Lakeland Drive which totaled 1.77 acres, valued at $733,500 .
