SmithKline, Glaxo deal wins 2 votes

Shareholders of Glaxo Wellcome PLC and of SmithKline Beecham PLC voted approval of the $75 billion merger of the two drug companies, creating the world's second largest when it takes effect Sept. 25. New headquarters will be London. In the US headquarters will be Center City, PA, and North Carolina. The two do not have FDA approval as yet.

SmithKline grew faster than Glaxo
Article Abstract:
London, England-based Glaxo Wellcome PLC, which reported a 5% increase in sales for 1999, will merge with London, England-based SmithKline Beecham PLC. SmithKline, which had its U.S. headquarters is in Philadelphia, reported a 10% increase in sales for 1999.

The fourth self-imposed deadline for SmithKline Beecham PLC and Glaxo Wellcome PLC to complete their merger is fast approaching. The deadline for their planned $76 billion merger is the end of 2000.
