Tenet Healthcare to sell 27 hospitals, aiming to enhance long-term growth

Tenet Healthcare Corp. announced its second major restructuring in less than a year with the proposed sale of 27 hospitals, including 19 in its core California market in 2004. The company believes that the sale would make it stronger and provide better prospects for long-term growth but acknowledged that it did not expect to meet its long-term financial performance goals in 2004 and 2005.

Genesis Health: Chapter 11 Filing

Kennett Square, Penn.-based Genesis Health Ventures Inc. has announced it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware. Genesis Health, which reported $1.5 billion in debts, is the fifth-largest nursing home company in the United States with 311 facilities in 15 states.
