U.S. trade imbalance grows to $46 billion

The Unites States posted a record trade deficit in March 2004, reflecting Americans' voracious demand for foreign-made goods as well as the most expensive crude oil since 1983. The $46 billion deficit reported by the Commerce Department represented a hefty 9.1 percent increase from FebruaryEs 2004 imbalance and came despite the fact that U.S. exports increased in March 2004.
