USW joins USX in protesting imports
Article Abstract:
U.S. Steel Group, an affiliates of USX Corp., is joined by the United Steel Workers union (USW) in its effort to protest the flood of cheap steel imports in the country. U.S. Steel's management and its mill workers in Mon Valley, PA, do not always agree on certain issues, but this time the two sides banded together in a rally to appeal for federal help in dealing with rising amount of steel imported from Russia, Japan and other foreign countries, and sold at low prices. The cheap steel imports, which have caused the prices of commodity grade steel to plunge by 16%, are viewed as a threat to US Steel as well as to the livelihood of its mill workers.

Power plant shutdowns worry IBEW
Article Abstract:
Duquesne Light Co. is discussing the possible sale of its power generating facilities with the System Council U-10 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). This is because the IBEW, which represents approximately 2,000 of the firm's workers, is worried that the sale may prompt several employee terminations. In its filing with the state Public Utility Commission, Duquesne Light stated that it is currently designing methods for relocating employees who are not union members to the firms that acquire its power generating facilities.
