Globalization has led automakers to share designs and components through international networks, allowed producers to save money, speed product introductions and keep prices down. As a result automarket's home market share has declined since 1993, but foreign companies imports have gained only five percent points of market share during the same period, rising from 13 percent to 18 percent.
