A new productivity paradigm for competitive advantage

Article Abstract:

The ninetees decade ushers in the emergence of a new productivity paradigm. This paradigm, which is founded on nonlinear dynamics, is expected to replace the traditional productivity paradigm based on theoretical and empirical observations. The new nonlinear dynamics paradigm serves as a more suitable and effective productivity source in comparison to the productivity paradigm because of the latter paradigm's inability to provide a rationale for distinct simultaneous outcomes in established products and markets. Feedback loops characterize the nonlinearity of the new paradigm while the presence of time delays in these loops provide the dynamic environment. The nonlinear dynamics paradigm is expected to enhance productivity by reducing the chaotic potential in business systems through an organizational network that is characterized by decentralization and parallel processing.

The strategic use of integrated manufacturing: an empirical examination

Article Abstract:

The increasingly intense nature of competition in the business environment has forced companies to use integrated manufacturing techniques such as advanced manufacturing technology, total quality management and just-in-time inventory control in order to remain competitive. These techniques have been shown to actually improve manufacturing performance, and are enhanced or weakened by both manufacturing strategy and the competitive environment. Total quality management has been shown to produce the most significant improvement in production when a performance-oriented goal is set, while a cost-oriented goal can profit from advanced manufacturing or just-in-time inventory control techniques.
