A note on the temporal variability of Canadian financial services stock returns

Article Abstract:

The Financial Services common stock rates of return in Canada are examined to assess the temporal stability of their systematic risk. A study examines the covariance stationarity of the stock returns in relation to any benchmark variable. Results reveal that the rates of return are not covariance stationary and that they vary negatively with interest rate levels. Findings also show that the systematic risk of Canadian banks rose between 1977 to 1986.

Capital markets, financial intermediaries, and liquidity supply

Article Abstract:

Intermediaries are shown to implement socially optimum with full insurance if they offer liability with age dependent restriction in an economy with increasing production returns and uncertain uninsurable demand of people. Results also show that intermediaries offer only second-best consumption allocations with partial insurance if they offer unrestricted, fully anonymous deposit contracts in the same economy.
