AEA Technology was part of the UK Atomic Energy Authority (AEA) and is scheduled for privatization. The company has been separated from the AEA with restructuring costs of 111 million pounds sterling. Staff have been shed and the company's operating profit has increased to nearly 20 million pounds sterling for 1995 to 1996 compared with 4.3 million pounds for 1993 to 1994, with sales at 258 million pounds in that year and a similar sales level for 1995 to 1996.
