AGM Report

Article Abstract:

The events of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, held on October 7, 1983 in Glasgow, Great Britain, are summarized. The new officers and members for 1983/1984 are listed. Public Finance Committee chairman Phillip Sellers' report on the progress of the Public Finance Foundation is summarized. A seminar entitled 'The trends towards Centralization of Power' was led by Dr. Arthur Midwinter of the University of Strathclyde. Prizewinners with description of achievements are included.

Annual report readability variability: Tests of the obfuscation hypothesis

Article Abstract:

A study investigated the presence of Reading East variability in the Chairman's Address section of annual reports, taken from annual reports of public companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. They were measured according to the Flesch reading ease formula, and all showed statistical variability in the readability of the Chairman's Address. Chi-square tests showed that reading ease patterns were apparent.
