APIRA conference, August 1998 in Osaka, Japan: A journey to Osaka

Article Abstract:

The South Asian Pacific Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting (APIRA) Conference was held at the Osaka City University in August 1998. It runs in triennial rotation with the Manchester University Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Accounting (CPA) conference. The conference is a forum for international scholars with an interest in interdisciplinary research in accounting. Leading scholars were asked to provide commentaries on aspects of the conference and its implications for accounting research, and these provided a wide range of experiences and different interpretations.

Accounting and management research: Passwords from the gatekeepers

Article Abstract:

The social constructions of senior academics in relation to research quality and priority are investigated. The underlying extant policies are compared with manifest policies promulgated by administrators in the higher education sector (HES). Some of the relevant literature relating to higher education sector (HES) changes in both Britain and Australia, is reviewed, and implications for future developments in research of accounting and management disciplines are evaluated.
