Aggressive Loss Control Improves Bottom Line

Article Abstract:

Accident prevention and loss control deserve higher priority by management. Percentages of accidents from 1982 show losses involving wages, medical expenses, insurance administration, fire losses and indirect costs. Ninety per cent of these accidents are preventable. An effective safety program has to be implemented. Questions to ask to determine the cost of neglecting safety are listed. Guidelines for choosing accident insurance are described. An accident prevention program will reduce costs, decrease the number of accidents, and improve productivity.

Examining the line - balancing the duty to the client with the duty to the tax system

Article Abstract:

Competent representation of tax clients by lawyers and accountants often presents those professionals with ethical conflicts regarding their responsibility to the tax system. The ABA and the AICPA have issued model standards of conduct which are law in some jurisdictions and which may provide guidance in questionable situations. Balancing the confidentiality and competence owed to clients against the accuracy and honesty due to the system is difficult and requires studied thought and analysis.

The bottom line on stress

Article Abstract:

The extremely competitive nature of the accounting field makes chartered accountants prone to the negative effects of stress. While stress makes the body more prepared against adverse situations, the heightened degree of activity can result in physiological and psychological side effects, such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, headaches, and diarrhea. Experts advise stress prone individuals to exercise, do breathing exercises, and relax to cope with its ill effects.
