Can British transport take the strain?

Article Abstract:

The UK is investing over 16 billion pounds sterling in its transportation infrastructure in the three years beginning in Apr 1991, which is twice the amount that was spent over the preceding three years. The increased spending on transportation is the result of criticism of the congestion of the UK's public transportation facilities, and the realization that a modern transportation infrastructure is vital for competing in the single European market of 1992. The UK is planning on building 140 kilometers of motorways and widening 800 kilometers of extant roadways, and British Rail will implement a three-year investment program worth over four billion pounds.

Freeholds: to buy or not to buy

Article Abstract:

Freehold property purchases are becoming a favorite form of medium-term investment in the depressed UK real estate market. Owing to the continuing deterioration of commercial property, freeholds provide businesses with the opportunity to purchase real property that significantly lower future overheads as a result of the property market's depressed state. Freehold property acquisitions are also not limited to business firms searching for new offices. A key advantage of freeholds is its ability to provide companies with capital value that appreciates as hardening of investment yields continue from the short to medium term.
