Corporate linkages and organizational environment: a test of the resource dependence model

Article Abstract:

The role of boards of directors in strategic management was studied by collecting data from 147 organizations in nine industries. Resource-dependence theory suggested that the boards would manage uncertainty, while management-control theory suggested that the boards would not have a major role in strategic management. The results of the study indicated that the boards had a tendency to respond to environmental uncertainty.
