Going European

Article Abstract:

The announcements in October 2006 by Big Four firms KPMG and Deloitte that they were merging with their European counterparts were significant with cross-border deals that went much further than traditional alliances. The merger of KPMG's UK and German practices created a pan-European holding company, KPMG Europe LLP, while Deloitte UK's combination with its Swiss counterpart could be a one-off transaction, aimed at giving the non-European Union (EU) European practice an investment boost.

Big Four audit fee growth goes flat

Article Abstract:

The analysis of the statutory audit fees paid by the UK's largest companies has revealed a growth rate of only 5% in 2006, compared with a 22% hike in 2005. BDO Stoy Hayward is the only non-Big Four firm to audit a FTSE 100 company and its client PartyGaming has joined the elite league after floating on the London Stock Exchange in 2005.

A very public matter

Article Abstract:

The manner in which the Mayflower tribunal's findings were published by the Accountancy Investigation & Discipline Board (AIDB) in January 2007 has surprised many in the profession. The matter raises serious issues about the manner in which the AIDB carries out future investigations.
