IMI to benefit from liquid assets
Article Abstract:
IMI has acquired Tour and Andersson Hydronics, a valve manufacturer, and has shed its software and titanium businesses which were not performing well. The company's share price has been affected by a number of factors such as weak demand from mainland Europe and a drop in copper prices. Heimeier, a German valve manufacturer, has performed well, and meshes well with Tour and Andersson. The company should perform well in 1997 and IMI shares are recommended for investors in April 1997.

More than just a number cruncher
Article Abstract:
Finance directors tend to have a low profile in UK companies, yet they often carry authority in the companies they work for. They may have developed their careers within the company or be career finance directors from outside. They have to have a number of skills including acquisitions, tax, accounting and treasury functions, in addition to relations with investors. They have transferable skills but tend to remain in one industry in the UK.
