Inclusion by design

Article Abstract:

Designers are proposing the implementation of an Inclusive Design Initiative as part of a national design policy. The principles of such an initiative is intended to encourage grassroots civic and political participation. Definite measures of how designers and government can collaborate to eliminate factors that hamper participation include development and promotion of a universal design initiative, visual representation of policies, redesigning of government tools for participation, simplified design contract procurement and the building of monuments to celebrate participation.

Sustainable cities by design

Article Abstract:

Designers are proposing the implentation of an Urban Design Initiative the restoration of urban centers towards the creation of sustainable communities for the 21st century. The Urban Design Initiative would include environmental integration, urban design research, social planning, grassroots participation, nationwide exemplary project planning, standards for infrastructure and military conversion.
