Marketers stay on track; ads reflect peso's pinch on pricing

Article Abstract:

Many US firms operating in Mexico are concerned with the country's current financial crisis but they have so far resisted calls to scale back on their business and marketing plans. Companies such as Apple and Compaq have chosen to adopt a wait-and-see attitude on the Mexican economy, saying they will continue with their existing plans unless a particularly severe downturn takes place. The only shift made has been with regard to advertising, which is now beginning to stress pricing.

The escalating debate on affirmative action

Article Abstract:

Affirmative action has been critical in the success of many minority-owned firms, providing them with much-needed breaks they would not otherwise have had. However, there is a growing Republican-led movement to drastically scale back or even totally eliminate affirmative action programs. Even the Clinton administration has announced a reevaluation of preferential programs. Minority business owners are organizing themselves to lobby vigorously against such a move.
