On test: the Amstrad PC2386
Article Abstract:
Amstrad's PC2386, an IBM PC AT compatible, is based on Intel's 80386 processor which is able to address 16 megabytes (MB) of RAM and runs at 20 Megahertz. The test model had four MB of dynamic RAM on SIMM cards supplemented by 64 kilobytes of fast static RAM, a 65 MB hard drive, and one 3.5 inch floppy drive. It also came bundled with Windows 386. The PC 2386 is a fast computer with a large memory, and it offers many different ways to organize memory. Amstrad is a major supplier with a good history of products and strong user support group. They also offer on-site maintenance, and are competitively placed. The major flaw in the PC2386 is the lack of a detector in the 3.5 inch floppy disk to distinguish a high density diskette from a double density diskette.
