Open software for biologists: From famine to feast
Article Abstract:
The development and uptake of expertly configured computer workstations loaded with free and open source software (FOSS) could help biological scientists overcome inadequate access to computing environments for research. The combined features of a BioLinux approach make it possible for laboratories, including those that have never had access to adequate computing resources, to install a complete, well supported computing environment optimized for bioinformatics research.
