Optimizing the assembly-processing-distribution system of processed and further-processed chicken in Pennsylvania
Article Abstract:
The present assembly-processing-distribution system of chicken in Pennsylvania was analyzed using a network analysis algorithm to determine its economic efficiency. Changes in processing capacities, unit processing costs, transportation costs, the location of processing facilities and the location of producing areas were evaluated to determine their economic impact on total system cost. It was determined that low processing costs determined which set of plants were at an optimal level. Furthermore, it was also shown that processing costs were more important than transportation costs to total cost.

Manufacturer versus trading company export behavior: the U.S. processed fruit industries
Article Abstract:
Direct export of processed fruits exhibits greater stability than indirect export. Research shows that direct exporters, processors who actively manage their exports, are not greatly affected by exchange rate adversity and that they have a strong impact on the future exports of processed fruit industry. On the other hand, trading company of exports intermediaries only place significance in foreign sales on short term basis making them incapable of maintaining secured export markets.

Estimating bargaining strength of Canadian chicken producers and processors using a bilateral monopoly framework
Article Abstract:
A bilateral monopoly framework was used to develop a price adjustment mechanism for the Canadian chicken industry, which compared the processors' and producers' bargaining strength in order to determine the equilibrium price of live chickens in Ontario. The theoretical analysis suggested that chicken processors have greater bargaining than chicken producers as live-chicken prices were highly co-related to chicken producers' average costs.
