Article Abstract:

Bank Indonesia governor Soedradjad Djiwandono has been instrumental in slowing down the Indonesian economy, but he says he would like to see the inflation rate down to 5%. During 1997, the inflation rate fell from 9.6% during 1994 to 6.5%. Djiwandono makes use of micro-management techniques and monetary management to keep inflation decreasing, including open-market operations and reserve requirements.

PT Semen Gresik (Persero)/Semen Gresik, the state-owned cement manufacturer, has been instrumental in the development of Indonesia's infrastructure. Semen Gresik represents 36% of the market share within its industry, and, in 1996, reported a 66% rise in net sales. The company has been focused on expansion, and has built to produce 375,000 tonnes.
