Product strategy and formal structure

Article Abstract:

The relationship between strategy and formal structure at the product level is examined. Data were drawn from five diversified consumer goods companies. The results indicate that the relationship between strategy and structure is severely constrained. The methods that firms use to accommodate mismatches between structure and product strategy are also discussed.

Rethinking incrementalism

Article Abstract:

Different notions of incremental strategic management are discussed. Incremental strategic management is reconceived within an 'organization action' framework, using empirical data from a longitudinal study and existing research. This approach also raises issues concerning the management of strategic change within organizations.

Generic business strategies, organizational context and performance: an empirical investigation

Article Abstract:

Organizational requirements for generic business strategies are analyzed using empirical data from 69 business units. The results indicate that business unit performance is affected by the fit between business unit strategy and the internal organization.
