Prudential: life force
Article Abstract:
Prudential Corp is the largest life insurer in the UK and has appointed a new chief executive, chairman and finance director. The company is likely to become more conformist in contrast to previous disputes with the industry regulators. There is less opposition to provisions for mis-sold pensions, and the contract length of the chief executive has been reduced. The company should benefit from a younger board and be better able to deal with rationalisation measures needed in the industry.

Policy Portfolio: bucking history
Article Abstract:
Policy Portfolio deals in second hand endowment policies and ranks among the major three companies in this field in the UK. The company benefits from opportunities created by low rates paid by insurers for endowment policies cashed in prematurely. The traded market for endowment policies is growing at an annual rate of between 20% and 25%. Demand has been boosted by investors seeking benefits from the demutualisation or flotation of mutual insurers.

Norwich Union: mutual no longer
Article Abstract:
Norwich Union may carry out a demutualization followed by a flotation. The company is not likely to be floated prior to 1997. There is pressure on UK insurers as sales have dropped and regulations have increased costs. There are more than 200 mutuals in the UK and pressures are increasing with new entrants in the market such as Direct Line. Norwich Union has diversified and could increase through expansion. A flotation would help this policy.
