Shades of success for coatings firm

Article Abstract:

European Colour is a pigments and cotaings supplier which has continued its growth despite a drop in industrial demand in the UK in 2nd half 1998. Coatings account for some 33% of total sales, and operating profits for this activity were up by 18% to 1.8 million pounds sterling in 1998. The company is strengthening its pigments division and investing in new pigments. Roma Colours was acquired in May 1999. European Colour has also acquired assets from the Forthrite Basic Dye activities of Croda Chemicals.

Sensing success

Article Abstract:

City Technology was set up in 1977 from a research group at City University in London, England. The company plans a share flotation in Jun 1996. sales should be helped by a stricter regulatory environment. Research and developments accounts for some 10% of turnover. The company can boost sales without greatly boosting overheads which should help keep margins high. The share issue will raise 45 million pounds sterling and 20 million pounds of this will be new funds.

Merseyside: hopes high as agencies notch up success

Article Abstract:

Merseyside, England, faces the loss of heavy industry, and Liverpool is losing population faster than anywhere else in the UK. English Partnerships, which develops infrastructure, and Mersy Partnership are seeking to attract investment. More jobs could be lost if Ford, an employer in the region, decides to outside operations. The aim is to attract companies from key sector seen as having growth potential such as call centers and the automobile parts industry.
