Shark in the water

Article Abstract:

Deep-Sea Leisure operates a walk-through aquarium in Scotland and plans a similar aquarium in Manchester, England. The company's Scottish aquarium attarcted 528,716 visitors in 1994, a figure which dropped in 1995 due to hot weather. A recovery occurred in 1996 and spending per head is up by 3.9%. The company will be helped by a 3 million pounds sterling European grant for the Manchester project which is scheduled to open in 1999. The company aims to attract 800,000 visitors to Manchester in that year. The concept of walk-through aquaria is a good one, but the company's success will depend on the outcome of the Manchester project.

Hydro set for water companies windfall

Article Abstract:

Hydro can supply water companies with technology for dealing with waste and controlling flooding, but UK water utilities have been reluctant to invest. The industry is to be reviewed by the regulator in 1999 and this could mean an increase in orders for Hydro. The company reduced its loss in 2nd half 1996 and hopes to achieve a profit in 1997. A profit of 150,000 pounds sterling is forecast by Greig Middleton, but Hydro's financial resources have been eroded by losses and further problems could mean that demands will bemade on shareholders.
