Article Abstract:

The real estate market is strong in Nottingham, England, and there is a shortage of quality premises. Low rental levels have meant that little speculative development has been carried out but demand is strong and there are a number of windfall sites to develop. The relocation of the Inland Revenue to the city has helped boost the real estate market, while the Lace market has become a tourist attraction. A scheme is also being developed for Boots the Chemist which will focus operations on a single building.

The East Midlands, England, lacks an organization for regional development and this is one reason given for the region's failure to attract inward investment. A regional development organization is to be established and will use Nottingham as its base. The aim is to promote co-operation between public and private sectors. Foreign companies which have invested in the region include Toray from Japan which has set up a plant in Mansfield, and NSK which has set up R and D facilities near Nottingham.
