Staropramen will absorb billions of Czech crowns

Article Abstract:

Prazske pivovary (PP) (Prague, Czech Republic), brewing group, has a new owner. The new owner is Interbrew (Belgium), which plans to invest CEK 3 bil in PP's recovery programme. Interbrew wants to clear PP of old debts and to provide it with a sufficient quantity of operating finances for its further development. PP saw a loss of CEK 789 mil in 2000. The firm's recovery programme will have two steps. PP will decrease its stock from CEK 1.7 bil to CEK 429 mil during the first stage and then it will increase the stock by CEK 3 bil. Interbrew, which holds a 97% stake in PP, will prefer the beer brands Staropramen, Branik and Ostravar.

Plzen is the leader in the field of beer exports

Article Abstract:

Plzensky Prazdroj (PP) (Plzen, Czech Republic), Pilsner Urquell brewing group, exported 562,000 hl of beer and became the largest Czech beer exporter in 2000. The group increased its beer exports by 25.7% in 2000 compared to 1999. It sold a total of 7.725 mil hl of beer in 2000, 0.5% more compared to 1999. The most demanded Czech beer was PP's beer brand Gambrinus with the sales of 3.688 mil hl in 2000, 6.8% more compared to 1999. The sales of PP's beer brand Pilsner Urquell increased by 26% in 2000 compared to 1999. The beer brand's exports rose by 26% and its domestic sales by 6.6% during the same period.

The court does not confirm the merger of breweries

Article Abstract:

Plzensky Prazdroj (Plzen, Czech Republic), the largest Czech brewing group, sold 7.741 mil hl of beer and saw proceeds of over CEK 9 bil in 2000. Its 2000 net profit amounted to CEK 509 mil. The group will not pay dividends from the profit, which will be used for its further development. The merger of PP with Pivovar Velke Popovice (Velke Popovice, Czech Republic) and Pivovar Radegast (Nosovice, Czech Republic) has not been confirmed by the court yet. PP is controlled by South African Breweries (South Africa).
