The German firm E.ON does not want Czech electric power

Article Abstract:

CEZ (Prague, Czech Republic), power firm, will have problems with electricity sales. The power engineering concern E.ON (Germany) was to purchase electric power worth CEK 2 bil from CEZ and import it to Germany in 2001. E.ON, which takes about 1.5% of CEZ's electric power sales every year, wants to end the supplies as soon as possible. Both the sides have pledged to say nothing about reasons for the stoppage of the supplies. The main reason is the problem of the Temelin Nuclear Power Station. E.ON is the largest investor in the Czech power engineering sector and plans to participate in the privatization of CEZ. CEZ plans to export 12 TWh of electric power in 2001, more than 20% of domestic production. About 80% of CEZ's total electric power exports go to Germany. The stoppage of exports would decrease CEZ's proceeds by at least CEK 7.2 bil. The useless power would correspond to nearly all the annual production of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Station.
