The charity franchise

Article Abstract:

Crisis is a charity that helps the homeless, and it is using the FareShare scheme to link homeless projects with retailers to use food that has not reached its use-by date, but which can not longer be sold. Volunteers are used to collect the food. Crisis operates the scheme in London, and does not have the resources to operate it elsewhere, so it is using a franchise system. Funding is a key issue, since many charities oftn have scarce resources. The scheme is also relatively complex in administrative terms.

Poor pay or more pay?

Article Abstract:

UK charities are divided on the issue of a minimum wage and this is partly because they are concerned about their own wage bills. Charities tend not to pay high wages even to senior executives. Volunteers are widely used by charities and this helps to cut wage bills. There are over 3 million volunteers which tends to cut the bargaining power of those who are paid. There are volunteers who receive benefits such as travel allowances and accommodation and there is concern that they may seek a minimum wage.

New identity for the Prince's Trust

Article Abstract:

The Prince's Trust is a group of charities which is reorganising and changing its identity, which will have advantages in terms of marketing. The charities are the Prince of Wales Committee, the Prince's Youth Business Trust, the Prince's Volunteers, and the Prince's Trust. A single brand is to be used to create unity and lessen confusion over similar names. The logo has also been modernised. The trust focuses on disadvantaged young people, and initiatives include study centers and job training.
