Article Abstract:

Basda, a trade association comprising more than 350 business software developers, has been working to educate its members and help them raise awareness among their users by publishing an IFRS white paper and planning to develop an IFRS financial software standard and an associated accreditation scheme. Flexibility and multi-dimensionality are important to deal with the new reporting formats and disclosures under IAS where systems should hold more than one standard chart of accounts.

A research report from the ICAEW's IT faculty highlights the conservative tendencies of accounting practitioners when it comes to investing in IT technology. Business critical failure is what the accounting professionals are most wary of and software suppliers need to address this if they wish to see the practitioners' uptake of technologies speed up.
