The role of investment privatization funds in economies in economic transition

Article Abstract:

The privatization of large government-owned enterprises in Poland and the Czech Republic is examined with particular focus on the role of privatization funds (IPFs) in the creation of the infrastructure that facilitated the sale of these entities. An analysis of the involvement of IPFs in the reorganization of the privatized companies indicates that they are active players in the domestic markets and may even be serving to stimulate other privatization programs.

Enterprise restructuring in transition economies: the need for venture capital financing

Article Abstract:

A study of the banking system in transition economies suggests that the banks do not have enough capacity to provide the financing needed for enterprise restructuring and large-scale privatizations. Venture capital is proposed as one means for meeting the growing demand for investment capital. Research findings indicate that the venture capital market can grow if there is a proper framework for the participation of local and foreign investments.

The Warsaw stock market: bear or bull? Lessons for new stock exchanges

Article Abstract:

An analysis of initial public offerings of newly-privatized companies in Poland show the government's plan to underprice stocks. This method is utilized to attract potential investors to acquire risky investments. However, domestic financial practices in the country minimize the benefits derived from said method. These include distortions in actual rates and the valuation of stocks to one third of its actual level.
