Wave of big mergers keeps going and going
Article Abstract:
The spurt in merger activity in the United States, which began in 2004, continued this year too, with several big acquisitions. Procter & Gamble bought Gillette for $57.5 billion, US telephone company SBC will be acquiring AT&T for $15 billion stocks and $1 billion special dividend, and MetLife will be purchasing Citigroup's Travelers Life & Annuity unit for $11.5 billion in cash and stock. An overview of other takeovers is presented.

Rising Euro begins to inflict pain

Rising concern about the damage caused to the European export competitiveness by the rise in stronger currency like euro is discussed. The pain inflicted by euro's appreciation is offsetted by the improving global growth.
