The "state of our profession" - a disaster or an opportunity?
Article Abstract:
College placement services should benefit both the educational institution and the employer involved. However, poor coordination and lack of commitment to the undertaking have often resulted in decreased benefits for the school, the employer and the student as well. Such misdemeanors on the part of employers as failing to appear for interview appointments can harm the whole career placement program if not handled properly. Employers should be urged, therefore, to apply the Total Quality Management principle even in their conduct of the placement program.

A regional survey of college seniors on their career ambitions
Article Abstract:
A careers service survey of senior students at three universities revealed that over 50% said they plan to carry on in education. The students said that having an interesting job, a good salary, the chance to progress, job security and a pleasant working environment were important to them. Students at the University of Virginia expected a higher salary than those at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. They anticipate earning between $30,000 and $50,000 compared to $20,000 to $40,000. Most students did not have definite career plans.
