A Raman spectroscopic study of uranyl species adsorbed onto colloidal particles
Article Abstract:
The adsorption of uranium(IV) into silver and gold colloidal particles has been studied with Raman spectroscopy. This method is well-suited in providing specific chemical information about surfaces and adsorbents as well as structural information on the orientation of adsorbent molecules. Results show the Raman active symmetric stretching frequency of uranyl ions is shifted to a smaller wavenumber when uranium is adsorbed by silver and gold sols. The shift is large enough to discount the possibility of weak bonding between uranyl atoms with both sols.

Formation of fluorescent rhodamine B J-dimers in sol-gel glasses induced by the adsorption geometry on the silica surface
Article Abstract:
The formation of fluorescent rhodamine B (RB) J-dimers at the xerogel and the effect of RB concentration on the fluorescence of doped gel glasses have been studied. RB is an organic fluorescent molecule that can be adsorbed on solid surfaces and has well-known spectroscopic properties. Results show the J-dimers due to a high concentration of RB molecules on porous silica gel glasses. The angle in which the RB molecules are adsorbed on the porous surface has been observed to be responsible for the formation of the J-dimers.
